A handsome Baltic/Continental 19th century Neo-Classical st. Walnut, Mahogany, polychrome, giltwood, and ormolu commode. The two door one drawer chest is raised by elegant square tapered legs ending with fine square fitted ormolu sabots. Above the straight frieze are two doors each decorated with lovely pierced ormolu keyhole escutcheons and delicate ormolu fillets framing the stunning wood grain. The doors open to reveal the original hardware fitted into the beautiful finished inside of the door and one shelf which slides out and can be adjusted to three different heights. Flanking the doors are striking columns with richly carved polychrome caryatids with tied giltwood garments and floral baskets. The single drawer displays remarkable pierced ormolu pulls and a keyhole escutcheon with lovely foliate designs and remarkable finely detailed eagles holding unique curved interlocking snakes in their beaks all framed within a fine wrap around ormolu band. The sides also display delicate wrap around fillets framing the lovely Walnut panels. Above is the beautiful Mahogany top with a French polish showcasing the warm wood grain with a fine wrap around fillet at the border. All original gilt and patina throughout. — Read Less
