A highly acclaimed Italian 19th century white Carrara statue of 'Jacob and Rachel at the Well', signed R. Romanelli, Firenze. This sensational and extremely high quality statue is raised on its original Vert de Patricia marble swivel pedestal. The pedestal displays an octagonal base below an elegant lightly curved socle and circular fluted central support. The mottled top swivels on its original hardware and is centered by an ouroboros design. The stunning statue is raised by a terrain designed base, where a charming and finely sculpted sheep stands amidst foliate designs. Jacob is sitting on the well dressed in a tunic with wonderfully detailed patterns. He wears a head scarf and has a handsome expression while looking at Rachel. She stands next to him wearing richly sculpted period attire with a fine lace border, a necklace and decorative head scarf. The beautiful Rachel is holding an amphora and Jacob's hand. Very finely executed with wonderful proportions and lovely subject matter. — Read Less
