  • (Rococo st.) - Often referred to as “late baroque” Rococo is an exaggerated and ornate style of art, décor, and architecture. This style utilized asymmetry, scrolls, white and pastel colors, and a technique called “trompe-l'œil” to create an element of illusion and surprise. Originating from the word “rocaille”, which was a style of decorating with pebbles and shells, Rococo pieces displayed luxuriant decoration with an abundance of undulating curves and movements. Its slight abandonment of symmetry, use of flowers, Asian motifs, and pastel colors gave Rococo its own distinct style.
