An elegant and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, ormolu, and brass desk. The six drawer Bonheur du Jour desk is raised by most decorative slender topie shaped legs with delicately fitted ball sabots below striking fluted columns leading upwards flanking the drawers and displaying exceptional fitted brass designs. The three central drawers each display beautiful ormolu pulls and keyhole escutcheons framed within a striking mottled ormolu band with the top drawer separated to look like two drawers. The side panels showcase the warm Mahogany grain and are also framed within fine ormolu bands. The Mahogany top opens forwards via its original hinges to reveal the green gold tooled leather writing surface below three additional drawers also displaying remarkable ormolu pulls. Above is the charming and most decorative French polished Mahogany top framed within an exceptional pierced ormolu gallery with topie shaped finials at each corner.
