A stunning and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze, ormolu, and black Belgian marble statue attributed to Jules Moigniez. The statue is raised by a fine black Belgian marble base with rounded sides and an elegant wrap around mottled border. Above an ormolu band is the striking wonderfully detailed statue of an impressive richly chased mother bird at the center protecting her young from a snake attacking the left. Each displays exceptional attention to detail amidst beautiful wonderfully executed foliage.
Jules Moigniez was a renowned French sculptor. Born in 1835 in Senlis and died in Saint-Martin-du-Terte (Seine-et-Oise) in 1894. He was a student of Cornolera and started to exhibit his work in 1855. There is a famous sculpture of his called 'Chien D'arret avec faison' 'Dog with Pheasant' in Chateau de Compiegne. — Read Less
