A stunning and extremely high quality French 19th century Louis XV st. Kingwood and ormolu desk possibly by François Linke. The desk is raised by elegant cabriole legs with handsome richly chased fitted pierced paw feet and acanthus leaf sabots. At each corner are striking and intricately detailed ormolu mounts of beautiful maidens in a dress amidst acanthus leaves with charming seashells and wearing foliate headpieces. The scallop shaped apron displays three drawers with the central drawer displaying a striking lattice designed keyhole escutcheon amidst fine foliate movements and framed within an etched mottled wrap around ormolu band. The two outer drawers also display charming foliate keyhole escutcheons with swaging acanthus leaf garlands and blooming flowers framed in the same manner. The back displays the same design as the front with three faux drawers while each side displays a superb richly chased mask of Bacchus set on a beautiful veneered Kingwood background showcasing the warm wood grain. Above is the fitted cognac colored leather writing surface with fine foliate gold tooled designs framed within a reeded wrap around ormolu gallery with lovely palmette mounts at each corner. — Read Less
