A superb and very high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and silvered bronze lamps, signed by Victor Paillard. Each lamp is raised by elegant square bases with fine block designs and concave corners. The socle shaped pedestals display beautiful fluted designs with wrap around berried laurel bands. The silvered bronze bodies adorned with striking richly chased swaging floral garlands tied at remarkable foliate handles at each side and centered by stunning finely detailed masks of beautiful maidens. The necks display finely detailed luxuriant scrolled acanthus leaf designs.
Victor Paillard (1805 -1886) a renowned Bronzier. Exhibited at the Fine Arts & Industry Exhibition in 1839. Paillard is most renowned for his work at one of the French Republic's most prestigious edifices the Quai d'Orsay, the French Foreign Ministry, located on the left bank of the Seine River in Paris. Also displayed at the Salon du Congrès and the Salon de l'Horloge, where the sophistication and technical brilliance of his work is evident. — Read Less
