From time to time, a piece comes along that even has our staff truly amazed. We consider every item in our collection truly exceptional and unique and this chest is nothing short of remarkable.
This sensational and most important French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period mahogany, ormolu and Sèvres porcelain, nine drawers two doors, Commode à Portes is fit for French Royalty.
Created in the image of a commode made for the King and Queen of France, the original chest was created for Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the gaming salon at Fontainebleau Palace.
As you can see in the image provided, the original chests sat side-by-side in a gorgeous room where Queen Marie Antoinette once hosted opulent and indulgent gatherings. No other words can describe this commode than opulent and indulgent.
