A very high quality French Louis XVI st. mid 19th century ormolu and Sèvres porcelain lidded urn. The urn is raised by a handsome square ormolu base with concave corners below the fanciful fluted socle with a berried laurel garland and acanthus leaf design. Above is the exquisitely hand painted urn with a central scene of a young boy amidst three young girls seated and listening to him play the banjo. They are all dressed in colorful period attire. The back of the urn has a beautiful central scene of the countryside with a garden bench surrounded by large trees and within a pastoral landscape. Each central scene is bordered by a gilt scrolled and foliate design on a blue background. The urn is flanked by two richly chased ‘C’ scrolled ormolu handles with open mouthed dragon heads at the egg and dart designed ormolu rim. The removable fitted lid has a similar fluted design like the socle with a large impressive berried finial. Sensational detail and proportions throughout. — Read Less
