A striking and grand scale French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and white Carrara marble clock, signed Marquis à Paris. The mechanism is manufactured by Honoré Pons. The clock is raised by an impressive solid white Carrara marble rectangular base with an elegant cut angle. The clock displays a beautiful wrap around Coeur-de-Rai band at the base with an elegant fluted design. Impressive scrolled elements lead up each side adorned with finely chased rosettes and large acanthus leaves. The large enameled dial displays Roman hour numerals, Arabic minute numerals, and lovely pierced ormolu foliate hands framed within a beautiful beaded and foliate band above a majestic finely detailed swaging berried laurel garland. Above is the stunning urn of prosperity with striking foliate designs, a wrap around interlocking band, and scrolled acanthus leaf handles below the superb eternal flame. All flanked by large richly chased acanthus leaves at each side. All original gilt throughout.
The gearing before the cannon pinion yields 793 hours of run. Which mean that fully wound, this clock will run for approximately a month. — Read Less
