A charming and very high quality French 19th century patinated bronze and Rouge Griotte statue named 'Paysanne Nourrissant des Oiseaux', by Mathurin Moreau. The elegant statue is raised by a circular mottled Rouge Griotte marble pedestal below a wonderfully executed terrain designed bronze base. The bronze depicts a lovely beautiful maiden dressed in classical attire sitting on a rock while holding a bowl of grain and feeding finely detailed birds at her feet. She is barefoot and dressed in a lovely flowing dress with a scarf in her hair. All original patina throughout.
Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912), a renowned French sculptor. Born in Dijon he first exhibited in the 1848 Salon and received a medal of honor from the salon in 1897. Many of his works of art are displayed in and around Paris, including the Luxembourg Palace, The d'Orsay and Arts et Métiers museums. — Read Less
