A handsome French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Belle Époque period patinated bronze and ormolu tazza. The tazza is raised by a circular mottled base with a fine wrap around beaded band. Above the socle shaped pedestal is the striking richly chased ormolu medallion depicting ladies in classical attire dancing and playing musical instruments. The words 'Terpsichore' and 'Debut' are inscribed at the front. In Greek mythology, Terpsichore means "delight in dancing" and is one of the nine Muses and goddess of dance and chorus. She lends her name to the word "terpsichorean" which means "of or relating to dance". The border displays beautiful intertwined foliate designs while each side displays elegant pierced handles. — Read Less
