A charming and most decorative true pair of Flemish late 17th century Neo-Classical st. Terra Cotta statues of Leda and Ganymede. Each statue is raised on a square Terra Cotta base with mottled edges below a rock formation supporting each statue. The statue to the right depicts Leda and the Swan, with Leda partially covered by a loose garment and looking down smiling toward Zeus who, in the form of a swan, is attempting to climb up her leg to be in her arms. This statue depicts a scene from Greek mythology where Zeus seduces a Spartan queen, Leda, while in the form of a swan. The statue to the left depicts Ganymede and the Eagle, with Ganymede covered by a robe held in his right hand, with his left hand resting on the wing of Zeus in the form of an eagle, and looking down on the eagle with a charmed smile. This statue depicts a scene from Greek mythology where Zeus, while in the form of an eagle, befriends and eventually abducts Ganymede, a Trojan hero, and makes him immortal to serve as his cup bearer. — Read Less
