Agathon Léonard (1841-1923), born Léonard Agathon van Weydevelt, was a prominent French Art Nouveau sculptor celebrated for his elegant studies of dancers and contributions to the decorative arts. His notable works include “La Cothurne” and “The Play of the Scarf,” inspired by dancer Loïe Fuller and exhibited at the 1900 World’s Fair. Léonard’s sculptures, often cast by the Susse Frères Editeurs foundry, spanned materials such as bronze, marble, quartz, and ivory.
