A spectacular French 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble and ormolu clock, signed Samuel Marti. The clock is raised by six beautiful circular ormolu feet with fine fluted and beaded designs. The white Carrara marble base displays a most decorative convex shaped front with a striking fitted ormolu plaque with charming richly chased cherubs playing. To each side are striking fitted pierced ormolu reserves with a central mask with crossed arrows and intricately detailed swaging floral garlands at each side. At the center is an elegant fluted socle shaped ormolu pedestal with a white Carrara marble balustrade designed support extending behind it, adorned with fine fitted scrolled interlocking ormolu patterns. Beautiful and most elegant maidens are seated at each side of the balustrade and are draped in fine flowing period attire. They are holding flowers and a wreath in one hand while reaching up and holding the stunning richly chased and intricately detailed floral and foliate finial above. The enameled clock face displays lovely colorful swaging garlands, Roman and Arabic numerals and pierced ormolu hands. A glass door protects the clock face and displays an ormolu border with a finely detailed delicate lattice design. Berried laurel garlands drape down each side and are tied with charming ribbons below the lightly curved fluted neck with a detailed foliate wrap around band. All original gilt throughout. — Read Less
