A sensational and extremely high quality American 19th century Renaissance st. patinated Bronze, Sienna marble and Ormolu mounted centerpiece attributed to E.F.Caldwell. The centerpiece is raised by three impressive ormolu supports with acanthus leaves supporting a thick triangular shaped Sienna marble base with concave sides. Resting above are three seated mermen with one hand on their waist while holding and blowing into a conch shell in the other. The three mermen are supporting the impressive mottled circular marble bowl which is elegantly decorated by handsome ormolu reeded top rim with an intertwined ribbon and foliate bands.
Edward F. Caldwell & Co., of New York City, was one of the premier designers and manufacturers of light fixtures and decorative metalwork from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Founded in 1895 by Edward F. Caldwell (1851–1914), the firm left a legacy of custom designed and finely made lanterns, chandeliers, ceiling and wall fixtures, floor and table lamps,that can be found today in many metropolitan area churches, public buildings, offices, clubs, and residences including, the White House (1902 renovation), St. Patrick's Cathedral,New York Public Library, and Rockefeller center. — Read Less
