A beautiful and most decorative French turn of the century Louis XVI st. ormolu, glass and leather coffee table possibly by Maison Bagues. The rectangular table is raised by elegant tapered legs with fine topie shaped feet and mottled top caps. The circular supports are each connected by a unique stretcher with its original fitted leather surface framed within a mottled ormolu border with richly chased rosettes. Above each support are striking acorn finials centering its original glass pane framed within an ormolu border.
Maison Bagues Founded in Auvergne, France, in 1840 by Nicolas Baguès, the company originally specialized in the creation of liturgical bronzes. Thanks to Baguès’ expansion into bronze lighting and the popularization of electricity, the business quickly found success. At the turn of the century, their chandeliers captured international interest, and soon Baguès began exporting to London, New York, Rome, Brussels, and Cairo. The company is best known for introducing to the world their now signature collections of finely crafted iron, gilt and crystal chandeliers and wall sconces Parrots & Foliage. — Read Less
