A stunning and extremely high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Époque period ormolu cartel clock and matching barometer. Each are set within exceptional wonderfully executed pierced ormolu cases centered by richly chased and finely detailed bottom foliate finials in a magnificent satin and burnished finish. At the center is a most decorative scrolled foliate reserve with an acorn finial amidst acanthus leaves flanked by most decorative berried laurel branches with fine etched details. The circular white enameled dials are each framed within lovely tied wrap around fluted bands with the clock displaying Roman numeral hour markings and Arabic numeral minute markings while the barometer displays the French words Tempête, Goutte de Pluie, Pluie ou Vent, Variable, Beau Temps, Beau Fixe, Très Sec (which translates to: Storm, Drops of Rain, Rain or Wind, Variable, Nice Weather, Nice Fixed and Very Dry). A branch with lovely oak leaves and intricately detailed blooming flowers is draped around the dial tied at the center flanked by beautiful scrolled elements with charming richly chased love birds frolicking above in a striking satin and burnished finish perched on the eternal flame and a quiver amidst additional blooming flowers.
