A stunning and extremely high quality Italian 19th century white Carrara marble bust of Cleopatra signed C. Lapini 1888. The bust is raised by a square base with an elegant mottled socle shaped support draped with charming finely detailed berried laurel branches. Above two most decorative scrolled elements is the beautiful Cleopatra draped in wonderfully executed flowing garments with tassels and a richly sculpted head wrap with the winged sun at the front and a lovely coin necklace around her neck.

Cesare Lapini (1848 - 1893) - Born in Florence. Lapini was a famous and acclaimed Italian sculptor of the 19th century who sculpted both small marble and larger works.
