Category: Objets D'art
A most attractive Italian 19th century alabaster bust of Joan of Arc, signed by A. Vagioli, Firenza. The heroine, nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans”, is wearing her armor decorated with acorns and foliage, embellished by detailed triangular spikes at the shoulders. Joan of Arc has a powerful expression with her hair blowing in the wind and her helmet with a front drop shield. Exceptionally well executed with fine details throughout. Joan of Arc is considered a heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian phase of the Hundred Years' War and was canonized as a Roman Catholic saint.
