Category: Objets D'art
A sensational and extremely high quality Italian 19th century Louis XVI st. white Carrara marble statue of a girl and her dog on their original Rosso Levanto base signed G.M. BENZONI. F.A. 1861. ROMA and titled Innocence Protected by Fidelity. The masterfully sculpted statue is raised on its original circular Rosso Levanto marble pedestal with a white Carrara marble base and a rotating mottled top. The top rotates by turning two richly chased ormolu acorn finials to enjoy this wonderful statue from all angles.

The statue is raised by a circular base with a ground design where the beautiful young girl sits on a rock with the signature displayed to the rear. Her hair is tied and she is creating a fine floral wreath while draped in masterfully executed flowing period attire covering her shoulder. At her feet is her exceptionally sculpted and handsome loyal companion with her left paw on a snake, protecting the innocent girl and her right paw on her leg. Superb and exquisite attention to every charming detail throughout.

An identical statue by the same artist is currently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
